Whilst I was in Kathmandu it was also Canada day and so, due to the large number of Canadians in my hostel, we all celebrated together which was really fun. The next day however was my flight to Bangladesh and it was delayed by 7 hours, which was particularly frustrating as the flight itself was 3 hours. This meant that I arrived in Dhaka very early this morning and very tired.
Dhaka is similar to Kathmandu in the fact that the traffic is incredibly bad, but apart from that it is like stepping into a different world. It is also the month of Ramadan so it will be very interesting seeing how this affects the country. Unfortunately it makes researching harder as everything seems to close down early and it may make it harder to get people involved due to the tough nature of Ramadan. But it is definitely cool being able to experience Ramadan inside a Muslim country!
I hope to be able to conduct research with BRAC Bangladesh over the next few days which I am really looking forward to and am also looking at staying in a village around 4 hours away from Dhaka for 3 days. The village I am told has a lot of varied microfinance and could be a really good representation of Bangladesh as a whole.
Thanks for reading and should post again in the coming days!
